Management Team

Managing Director
John Hinman
As a founding member of the Nexus 5 Group, John spends most of his time coordinating operations, business strategy, business development and high-level project oversite. John has more than 30 years of experience in the construction industry and has managed over $150,000,000 worth of projects. His experience includes many project types, from office buildings, medical office, tenant improvement, industrial, historic, restaurants, financial, multi-family, churches, to multi-family renovations and capital expenditure projects.
John graduated from Kansas State University in 1993, with a Bachelor of Science Degree, in Construction Science and Management. When John is not working, he enjoys spending time with his wife (Stefanie) and 4 kids (Taylor, Daniel, Molly, & Luke), at the lake, and is very involved with his church. John serves on the board of directors and is a founding member of The Father’s Club, a board member of the Kansas City Crime Stoppers, and is involved in other organizations such as F3KC and Men’s Encounter.

Division Manager
Josh McDonald
Josh has been involved in management and construction industry for over 20 years. Josh’s experience includes on-site supervision roles, estimating, budgeting, marketing, safety, business development, and project management. Josh currently oversees many commercial projects as well as large multi-family capitol improvement projects.
Growing up in the family business, Josh was on construction sites from an early age. Coming from a blue-collar family, he learned the value of hard work, communication, dedication, honesty, and integrity. Prior to joining Nexus 5 Group in 2018, Josh worked in supervisory and management roles for several companies and was owner-operator of a small construction company in the residential renovation market. While managing as many as 45 employees, he has overseen areas such as training, budgets, schedules, quality control and business development.
When not managing projects, Josh likes to spend time outdoors, watch and play sports, and spend time with his family. Josh is passionate about investing in community, church, friends, and family. He and his wife, Jamie, have 5 children and enjoy spending time with family and friends, creating memories, and experiencing new adventures.
Project Team

Senior Project Manager
Stan Phelps
Stan has been involved in construction and maintenance for 25 years specializing in the multifamily industry while also working on the commercial side of the industry as well. In addition to project management, he has experience in estimating, on-sight supervision, quality control and safety. Since joining Nexus 5 Group, Stan has been directly involved with property ownership and investments groups on property acquisitions nationally. This role involves everything from site inspection and due diligence to creating renovation budgets for interior and exterior property improvements as well as implementation of the overall property improvements.
Prior to joining Nexus Stan has worked on the property side of the multifamily industry holding virtually every position in the industry ranging from Maintenance Director to Property manager. This experience gives Stan unique insight to help projects run smoothly and to serve clients well. Being directly involved with multifamily property improvements has given Stan a wide variety of project experience. With the ability to perform so many different types of projects this makes Stan the easy button for property management as he can be the one stop shop for all property improvements.

General Superintendent
Josh Green
Josh has been in the construction industry since 2010, serving as an onsite superintendent for nearly 15 years. Prior to joining Nexus 5 Group in 2018, Josh served as a superintendent for large commercial retail renovation projects. During those 8 years he managed up to 10 projects per year across the country. Prior to that Josh also owned his own remodeling company and his on-the-job experience has given him the knowledge and know-how to lead a successful team and deliver successful projects.
At Nexus 5 Group, Josh is an acting on site superintendent. also oversee our superintendent development program and safety program.
Josh's family founded and manages the Julia Bargman Hope Foundation in 2010 where he has served as the 5K event organizer. The foundation is a non-profit organization that provides donations to local hospitals and breast cancer research foundations. When not on site, you can find him attending a Chiefs game or hunting. Josh and his wife Emma have three children and enjoy lots of family time.

Nexus 5 Group performed the role of the owner's representative for the initial due diligence, renovation scope and budget. Nexus 5 Group also performed the role of general contractor for the exterior renovation. Exterior renovation scope included extensive concrete repairs, reroofing several buildings, stair repairs, and the addition of a fire pit and outdoor kitchen to the pool area.

Nexus 5 Group performed the role of the owner's representative for the initial due diligence, renovation scope and budget. Nexus 5 Group also performed the role of general contractor for the exterior renovation. Exterior renovation scope included new roofs on all buildings, stucco and wood rot repairs property wide, new pet wash, club house remodel, pool deck repair and resurface, the addition of a car wash, and erosion control and soil abatement with new plantings throughout the property.

35,964 SQ FT TENANT IMPROVEMENT | Overland Park, KS


MMGY completed a 35,964 square feet tenant improvement within the Edison District Building in downtown Overland Park, KS. This project was executed in two phases and the scopes included a design-build HVAC system, custom cabinetry, specialty ceilings, and unique amenities including a golf simulator, live wall and coliseum seating area.
